Welcome to Remote Learning

Hello Duggan High School Families,

First, I hope that you and your family are healthy and well.

The State of Massachusetts has made the decision that all school districts will finish the school year through Remote Learning, and I am writing this letter to inform you of Duggan Academy’s plans as we progress forward.

All students should have access to class assignments and materials through the internet.  Any computer with internet access will work, but if there are any students still in need of getting a computer from Duggan Academy they should contact the school at (413) 787-7410 and we will make arrangements.  Teachers have made use of various learning platforms, but all student assignments and resources can be reached by going to springfieldpublicschools.com and using the Unified Classroom Application (Click on “Resources,” then “Student links,” and then “PowerSchool for Students (Unified Classroom).”

Since the middle of March and the initial school closure, Duggan Academy has been offering enrichment and review activities online for our students.  On Monday, April 27, our focus will shift and teachers will begin to cover new content and curriculum for students to learn.  It is important to note that the assignments distributed by teachers through online platforms beginning April 27th will be graded by teachers and used to determine 4th quarter grades.  Grades will be limited to CREDIT or NO CREDIT and ultimately students will receive a PASS or FAIL grade for the 4th marking period in each of their courses.  It is therefore vitally important that students are communicating with their teachers, accessing their learning resources, and completing assignments.

We are aware that Remote Learning is a new and challenging experience and we want to offer as much support as possible to help our students be successful.  Duggan teachers have collaborated to create a schedule illustrating the general amount of time that students should devote to each of their courses each day throughout the week.  Despite the nature of Remote Learning and the requirements of social distancing, our teachers are eager to interact with students and offer any clarification, explanation, or general assistance that may be required.  Students can reach out with questions at any time, but we have also attached a list of “Office Hours” for each teacher.  During these assigned times, teachers are available for the exclusive and specific benefit of their students and stand ready to offer any immediate academic assistance or support that may be required.  We strongly encourage that students take advantage of their teachers’ assistance and support during these times.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or to request assistance as our students move forward with Remote Learning.

Thank you,

Michael Calvanese

Hola

Gracias,

Michael Calvanese
